I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of encouragement and how little words have led to big things in my life. Today I wanted to share the story of our wedding day.
It was pretty standard planning and preparation up until the week before the wedding. That’s when there was a fire in the building where we were going to have our reception. My dad was the director of the building where the fire occurred, so when we heard what was happening, my sister and I went to see what we could do to help and we spent the day helping evacuate the residents. Thankfully no one was hurt, but there were a lot of people that were displaced and several lost their homes temporarily as well as many treasured possessions. In comparison, our wedding challenges were small ones. We were just SO happy that everyone was safe.
But we did have to figure out what to do about our wedding. We had 5 days to find a room that would hold our family and friends and I remember sitting across the table from my mom and thinking that I should PROBABLY be worried about it all but I just felt like the Lord was going to take care of it. And He did.
A sweet man and his wife mentioned to their son that I had been helping them out a little on the day of the fire, and then their son wrote a small paragraph about it.
That small paragraph brightened my day and was an encouragement to me.
It also inspired a reader to contact some of the hotels in our area and those hotels were inspired to help.
By the end of the next day, we had 3 different, BEAUTIFUL locations offered to us to replace that banquet room that was destroyed. The hotels didn’t just offer their left over rooms, they offered us their BEST. Because they were inspired to help us by the kind words that were written to be a simple encouragement to us and others around us.
I hope I can take action like that in my life. I hope that I can encourage others. I hope that I can help others in the way that the people in our city helped me. It was so powerful to see these people come to our aid, we were SO honored to be in the middle of that circle of events that occurred because that nice couple mentioned my name to their son. We will never forget any of the people that helped us. They blessed us beyond words.
Little, positive actions. They can start a ripple that leads to something that is so BIG.
